Week 7: Highschool

This weeks campers have showed a new level of intensity. In the mornings the high schoolers have been studying Drawing and Painting. Mr. Jeff has set a high standard for his students and they have worked diligently sketch after sketch. Campers have drawn gestures, cartoons, still life, and perspective drawings. After completing their drawings the students have used a variety of paints to add a little color. Tuesday we took a tour of the galleries. The campers asked great questions and challenged others views about different art works.

In the afternoon Mrs.Kelly is teaching a Mixed Media class. Yesterday the students had their first critique. It took a little bit to get them speaking freely but once the ball got rolling each comment, opinion, and bit of advice contributed to a hearty learning experience. The campers are working on a series of perspective drawings that they will later turn into paintings, prints, or collages. Their creativity is unlimited!

Week 5

WOW! This week was full of crazy campers, and we loved every second of it! Mrs. Elizabeth taught the morning group, Mixed Media Madness. I am sure the parents enjoyed seeing the kids puppets they brought home on Friday. In the afternoon Mrs. Delena taught 3-D Adventure. The campers made the cutest birds I have ever seen. Many of the campers that we had this week had been here in the previous weeks, and we have grown very fond of each of them. Thank you all for making this summer so great.

ALREADY WEEK 4!

It is hard to believe that this summer is flying by so quickly. Over the past few weeks Asheville Art Museum's summer campers have been busy. We have seen all ages.

Week 2: Mrs. Banares and Kelly had a group of 6th-8th graders that were full of ideas! I was impressed with them- CREATIVE KIDS! Their conversations were as creative as their art and lunchtime was always interesting. They attempted to mail a flipflop!

Pack Place Potpourri: This was a fun week for all the summer camps here at pack Place! Two groups of third through fifth grade campers spent their days going from museum to museum. Mrs. Nora taught both sessions. Campers learned about primary and secondary colors, tints and shades, and they used their new knowledge to create 3D Cityscapes!

Week 3: This was AAM's second week with Kindergarten- 2nd graders and their were a lot of familiar faces. We were glad to see many returning campers. Mrs. Nora and Mrs Sara did a great job making sure the campers had on their creative caps. Campers made trains, a self portrait montage from food pictures, and they also did print work.

Week 4: This week we offer 3D Adventure & Drawing & Printmaking! There are a few returning campers from Pack Place Potpourri, and we are pleased to see them back. Mrs. Elizabeth and Mrs. Delena have started great projects for the campers. Its really neat watching the creative process.
